New Vanishing Waterfall in Asheville, NC

We are almost finished with this vanishing waterfall in Asheville.

A vanishing waterfall is different from a Pondless Waterfall.

With a traditional Pondless Waterfall, all of the water used to circulate in the falls is stored at the base of the falls in a ‘Pondless basin’ that is created using ‘Aqua blocks’ (basically structural milk crates) set inside a rubber liner and covered with river rock.

This is a good system and very functional.

However it leaves no room to filter out leaf debris that may fall into the system.

With a vanishing waterfall, we can install a leaf catch filter away from the system for easy maintenance.

Here you can see the Filtrific leaf catch filter tank set away from the base of the falls. We will backfill around the filter box so that it will be integrated into the landscape.

After the water in the system flows through the Filtrific filter box, in drops into the vanishing basin. This can be man made or you can use a pre-fabricated cistern.

For this project we built a 4000 gallon tank out of cinder block and lined the inside.

We also use Filtrific holding tanks or even plastic septic tanks for our systems.

You can install your submersible pump into the tank or draw water for the waterfall from the tank using an external pump.

Here’s a quick video of our current vanishing waterfall project in Asheville.

Asheville Water Features: Pondless Waterfall

Here is a fun little Pondless Waterfall we just finished in Asheville, NC.

It took us 2 days to build this feature. It sits in the front yard of our clients house, right near the entry to the house, so they can enjoy the sounds of flowing water every time they step outside.

How to build a custom fountain

Formal Fountain
Pondless modern style fountain.

The fountain is a classic addition to any landscape design.

Fountains are constructed in many different styles depending on the landscape design.

Formal fountains are common in many landscapes. However, here at Living Waters we push the boundaries in fountain construction.

We like to create original, one of a kind fountains for our clients in Asheville.

Here is a recent post about custom fountains:

We were contacted by our client to design a custom fountain for the center of their circular paver driveway in Asheville, NC. We came up with a custom design for a circular fountain that would give a 360 degree view. The fountain was constructed using large Tennessee Boulders set in a circle on a pondless reservoir. The pondless fountain will allow our client to turn the feature off and on as the please. Pondless fountains are nearly maintenance free, and do not require the pump to run constantly, like a feature with a pond would.

We started of by lining the system with a 45 mil EPDM rubber liner. We then ran the plumbing to a center diffuser and started setting boulders.

We chose a 3600 gallon per hour submersible pump for this feature. The pump was set in a housing at the side of the feature.

With all of the large boulders set, we detailed the top of the feature with waterfall rocks and capped it with decorative river rock. The pondless basin and pump housing were also covered with river rock.

We then landscaped the project area. This was a very fun build and our clients are very happy with the results.
